All of our items are made fresh by hand in our Chicago kitchen. From washing and chopping produce to making dressings from scratch, we pride ourselves on the level of care in our kitchen. We are obsessed with quality, and actively partner with our suppliers to source responsibly grown and harvested ingredients.
We use local and organic ingredients whenever possible, but our focus during sourcing is to find the best quality products available from partners we know and trust. Sometimes this happens to be local and organic, but not all the time.
We strive to work with partners who share our commitment to the best taste possible and who believe in treating their employees and the environment as ethically as possible. Of course, impeccable food safety standards are a must, as well as the capability to meet our demand for volume.
Other considerations as we make our food? We constantly aim to reduce our environmental impact at every level of the production process. Additionally, we believe part of improving the food system includes making sure animals raised for food are treated with respect and are working with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) on our animal welfare policy. While we do accommodate a range of dietary preferences, our recipes are packed in a facility that handles gluten as well as all major food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, sesame, soy, and shellfish.
Our Wheat-Free recipes are prepared in the same facility as our other meals, and may not be suitable for those with severe gluten intolerance or celiac disease.
Yes, this is something the team discusses frequently. Finding a way to make our packaging as sustainable as possible is a top priority and we are constantly researching, testing and formulating new ways to transport our food.
The trouble with using glass specifically is that it makes the food less affordable and is very unsafe for the employees who pack and deliver our meals. We process 15,000+ meals a day in our kitchen facility. If one glass jar breaks during production, that would violate food safety regulations for all the food produced that day. While we’d love to use glass from a sustainability perspective, we aren’t willing to compromise on food quality and employee safety.
Our jars are all 100% recyclable and can be tossed in any recycling bin. You can also recycle them at the Fridge on your next visit. However, feel free to keep and reuse them – our customers find lots of creative uses for their jars (think storing dry goods in the pantry, organizing art supplies, or using for leftovers).
We recommend always putting your food into an alternate bowl but if you want to heat up your jar, be sure to check the label to ensure it's heatable. Some of our 12 and 16-oz jars can be microwaved, but our larger jars cannot!
We optimize inventory levels at the Fridge to reduce food waste, and any leftover food that we do end up with is composted by hand. To date, we’ve composted well more than 700,000 pounds of food (that’s roughly the weight of 70 elephants, for your mental picture).
Shelf life varies by product, but you can find a printed “enjoy by” date on the packaging of each item. On average, items last 4-5 days in the fridge. Keep in mind that we don’t use preservatives on our items, so you can expect them to last about as long as regular produce does. Items with cooked veggies (like many of our bowls) can stay fresh for 5 days or more. Once received, please make sure to refrigerate your products as soon as possible to ensure they maintain freshness!

We adhere to a production schedule to ensure we have the right amount of the highest quality ingredients on hand to fulfill our orders. In an effort to reduce food waste, we are unable to cancel or adjust orders within 5 days of your delivery date.
If you wish to cancel your one-time order, we will refund you in full if the cancellation notice is received at least 5 days prior to your delivery date. Cancellation requests within 1 - 5 days of your delivery date may not be accepted or could result in a cancellation fee.
We offer scheduled orders through our mobile app in select markets. When you set up your delivery in the Farmer’s Fridge app, choose to set up scheduled, recurring orders on a cadence that works for you. Skip a delivery or edit your order at any time.

Jars: Remove labels, rinse and recycle in your curbside bin. Or – reuse the jars for tupperware or storage!
Cardboard box and Kraft paper: Flatten and recycle in your curbside bin.
PET liner: Sourced almost entirely from recycled drink bottles, our PET fiber insulated liners are fully curbside recyclable with no adhesives, PVC, paper or contaminants to the recycling stream.
NoSweat Ice Pack: We've chosen an ice pack to use during the summer months that reduces condensation inside our box to help ensure your jars arrive cool and crisp and your box stays intact! The trade-off is this ice pack needs to be disposed of in your household trash, rather than poured down the drain like the other packs you may have seen. Or, feel free to reuse them for your summer picnics!
Each order is packed to fit perfectly in our boxes. At this time, we are unable to combine multiple boxes per delivery address, however, you can place two separate orders however each box will incur a $5.99 shipping fee.
At this time our delivery program is not part of our Greens rewards program. It’s something we absolutely would like to incorporate and our tech team is working on the logistics. It’s not a feature yet, but you’ll be notified when it is! In the meantime you can refer your friends for $10 with this link.
Our scheduled order program allows you to place and manage recurring deliveries. This feature is only available in some zip codes in the app under the "Order for Delivery" section.
Once you add items to your cart, you will be able to select your delivery date, delivery time and frequency at checkout. The options you selected will apply to your future scheduled order deliveries. You can skip, modify or cancel your orders at any time in your order confirmation.

A day or two before your scheduled delivery, you will receive a confirmation email with the tracking link from our third-party shipping partner. You may receive notification of shipment when your label is created. Please allow 24 hours for tracking information to appear!
We’re excited to offer the ability to order for delivery through our app! The team is still hard at work adding additional features and improving the customer experience. Currently, we are unable to add items or make changes to orders placed in the app once they are confirmed. As we release new versions of the app this option may become available.
Food and employee safety is the cornerstone of our business, both now and everyday. For years, we’ve employed a full-time food safety team of 15 people who are dedicated to maintaining our extremely high quality standards.
Our stringent everyday safety standards have never been so important. Here are a few of the things you can always count on from Farmer’s Fridge:
Food is produced in an USDA/FDA compliant facility and surpasses all requirements for good manufacturing standards. Our production facility is regularly inspected by an external food safety company (Siliker) and has consistently passed with extremely high scores. Strict sanitation practices (including washing down the entire facility from floor to ceiling with a pressure hose every day) and protective gear for employees including full hair and face coverings, smocks to cover clothing and disposable protective gloves. In the event that you are unhappy with any part of your Farmer’s Fridge order, you can reach out to us within seven (7) days of the date you received the unsatisfactory item by emailing email@example.com. If related to the condition of an item, Farmer’s Fridge, at its reasonable discretion, may give you a credit for the individual item or delivery, and in some situations, issue a partial or full refund. We reserve the right to require either a photograph or return of the unsatisfactory item before any refund or credit will be issued. If you refuse delivery of a Product because you skipped or canceled the order prior to the cancellation deadline for that order and you are able to provide documentary evidence of such skip or cancellation (for instance, a time-stamped email), Farmer’s Fridge will process a credit or a full refund (including any applicable delivery charges) as soon as practicable and, in any case, within 30 days of your cancellation request.
