Get to know Jazz Leaf! – A first-generation Persian American originally from Santa Barbara, Southern California. She worked in corporate America as a technical project manager for 5 years post-grad before changing careers into the health/wellness industry. After realizing money was not going to fulfill her desire to help people live healthier lives, she quit her corporate job and took the leap of faith to move full time into health and wellness!
Tell us about yourself!
I live full time in St Pete Beach, Florida, where I'm a private chef to professional athletes during the NBA off-season. I cater events, provide weekly meal prep services to clients in my area, teach virtual cooking classes, and I'm a cycling instructor to a few professional NBA athletes.
I love using my healthy food creations to show people that eating healthy doesn't have to be boring and can truly affect how we feel inside and out! I want to inspire and guide individuals to live a positive, energetic, and nourishing lifestyle through nutrition – to gain full confidence and emotional happiness deep within themselves!
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day in my life starts at 7 AM. Before I look at my phone, talk to anyone, or do anything else, I stay in bed and meditate for 10 minutes. I practice deep breathing and positive thoughts to get the day started on a relaxing note vs. being in fight or flight mode. Next, I take 5 minutes to write down 20 things I am grateful for in a gratitude journal I have right by my bed. My workout clothes are already laid out beside my bed, so once I'm done, I change and get ready for the day! I love to go on beach walks, take a spin class, do yoga, all followed by 15 minutes of deep stretching. Around 10 AM, I take a shower and get ready for the workday.
Since I am a private chef, every workday is different. Some days I spend time writing menus, creating recipes I want to make for my clients, grocery shopping, in the kitchen cooking/prepping, and dropping off prepared meals at my clients' homes! Regardless, I love to end the workday around 5 PM. From that point, I put my phone and laptop away, make dinner for my husband and me. Maybe we will watch a show or watch the sunset, some nights I like to take a bath, other nights I love to watch a movie. I’m in bed by 9:30 PM and love to wind down with some candles and essential oils!
What are 3 tips you’d give someone looking to improve their overall wellness?
Tip #1: On Sunday evenings, take 20 minutes to plan out tentative meals for the week. Know your options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. That way, when lunch rolls around on Wednesday, you won’t stop by a pizza place because you're so hangry. Instead, you have a plan and can pull something out of your stocked fridge!
Tip #2: Always lay out your workout clothes the night before. If you have the time for a quick 20-minute workout when you wake up, do it then. Often our days get busy, and things come up, but if we prioritize with a workout, regardless of if things get busy, you have already brought in movement. When your clothes are laid out for you, it doesn’t require much effort to put them on & start!
Tip #3: Begin the day with gratitude. Ever since I started this, I have felt my whole mindset shift completely. Write down 20 things you're grateful for; maybe it's your cat snuggling with you in the morning, maybe it's for waking up after a good night sleep, whatever it is, thank the universe for it and see how it makes you feel when you begin each day with a grateful heart!
Favorite form of exercise?
Spinning!! I am an instructor, so I love dancing on the bike to loud hip hop with the lights off. It's so fun!
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself. You are beautiful just the way you are. Being different makes you unique, and that could be the best thing you could do for yourself and the people around you. You are beautiful!

What’s your favorite recipe to make at home?
PESTO CRUSTED SALMON!
1 lb of Atlantic salmon, fresh
2-3 tablespoons of pesto
2 tablespoons gluten-free breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon lemon juice, about 1/2 lemon
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1.) Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
2.) Place salmon skin side down on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Spread about a 1/4 inch layer of the pesto on top of the salmon.
3.) Add lemon juice and the remaining seasoning. Sprinkle the Panko breadcrumbs on top as the last layer.
4.) Bake the salmon for about 12-15 minutes (12 for a smaller filet or 15 for a larger).
5.) Broil the salmon on low for an additional 3 minutes after the timer has gone off, allowing the breadcrumbs to crisp.
